Home Is Where The Heart Is
I once asked a friend of mine why he chose to live in a small town in central Alberta. He was born in the United States, raised in Kenya, East Africa, served a two year mission for his church in Japan, and had been on many exciting adventures to various places in between. He answered simply:, “The thing that makes a place a home, are the people. I’ve found good people here.”
This sentiment has stuck with me over the years. As my husband Keri and I have begun the monumental task of starting up a housing development in Cardston, Alberta, we have felt the weight and strain that inevitably come with such an undertaking. However, we have also felt that we are not just building houses. We are in the literal sense and in many other ways, creating community. We are building relationships that will last a lifetime.
We have met with so many people who have shared with us how much they love this town. Even those who have moved away due to varying circumstances, have told us how much they love Cardston and would like to have a reason to move back. The issue that many residents of Cardston have had in the past and present, is that they want to live independently without the worry and burden that they sometimes feel in their current home. Their options for moving into a home that meets their current requirements and lifestyle have been very limited until now.
The driving force behind every decision Keri and I have made has been to keep our commitment to the people of Cardston to deliver on our promise to create beautiful, safe, well constructed homes and a supportive community. Everything we do and every decision we make is about people.
Keri has extensive experience and knowledge with the science of building design and construction, having worked with one of Canada’s largest architectural firms and many renowned architects in North America. He is also the lead architect for two Temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Needless to say, details, thoughtful design and efficiency are very important to him and he brings the same attention to detail to every project he works on. We have also had the privilege of working with Blackcard Construction on the Cottonwood Creek development. They have been a pivotal factor in keeping the project on track and are experts in their field. Consequently, they also work on construction and renovation projects of Temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Their motto is “Building People, Not Things.” Talk about a match made in heaven!
Working with the town of Cardston and the people on Town Council has also been an amazing experience. Everyone has been so helpful and professional; it’s easy to see how eager people are to help the town of Cardston live up to its full potential. Another thing we’ve loved about working in Cardston is being able to work with many local trades. They have been professional and efficient and care about the work they do. Now that the Show Home is open we hope people will stop by with their friends and have a look and see for themselves the quality of the workmanship, attention to detail and beauty of these homes. You can call to make an appointment or drop by during the week during working hours.
Being a part of building onto the great community spirit that already exists in Cardston has been one of the greatest adventures Keri and I have ever had. It’s easy to see why people choose to live here and have no desire to live anywhere else. We hope that we’ve been able to provide an option for them to stay in the town they love, surrounded by the people they love. As my friend would say, “The thing that makes a place a home are the people. I’ve found good people here.”
